Same, same but different? How democratically elected right-wing populists shape climate change policymaking

The Paris Agreement expresses far-reaching commitments to combat climate change, but its translation into national contexts faces severe confrontation by populist movements and individuals worldwide. We unpack compare how differently right-wing leaders translate rhetoric policymaking institutional change. do so investigating three areas of contestation: (1) the economic marginalization left behind, (2) conflicts between globalism nationalist priorities, (3) tensions universalized science situated experiences. offer an analytical framework study shape test approach with empirical observations from democratically elected populists in US, Philippines, Brazil. Populists severely affect policies long run, these effects are highly context-specific.
